What is the difference between a regular real estate agent and a Realator?
Aren't they the same thing?
Aren't they the same thing?
A real estate agent is licensed by the state. Realtors are licensed real estate agents who are members of a trade group.
So, they are not exactly the same thing.
Right. The trade group, national Association of Realtors, is optional, but the license is not optional.
Ethics are a good thing.![]()
Our first agent wasn't so hot. We got another and really liked him. Don't stick with one if it doesn't feel right.
how did you leave the first agent? did you have an agreement?
Her husband transferred out of state so she moved away. It worked out OK for us. Yes, we had an agreement.
Would you have to stay with the same firm, or did yo go to an agent in another firm?
why would you have to stay with the same firm?
Because your buyer agent agreement is with the firm, not the agent. If the firm forced the issue.

That's right. We stayed with the same firm. Different agent. But it was our choice to stay. They weren't going to make us do anything.
People are always confused between realtor and real estate agent and use the terms interchangeably, but that is incorrect. There are big differences between REALTORS® and real estate agents. Although both are licensed to sell real estate, the basic difference between a real estate agent and a REALTOR® is a REALTOR® is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® while all agents are members of NAR.
Pick an agent who will make it all about YOU. The agent should not need to be the center of attention all the time.
