how big a job will you do yourself?

and how big does it have to be for you to hire someone?

i can do things like change hardware and door knobs, and some painting. i don't like tall ladders, though, so vaulted ceilings are jobs for real painters.
i wish i could do some electrical things, like change light fixtures. it would save a lot of money if i could.

No electrical for me!
But, I installed fancy closet systems in my last home. It was great, and I will do it when I buy again.

I once ripped off my own roof and put the new one on. Section by section for a few weeks. In the summer. Never will I do THAT again!

If that diet works, I may have to try it out. Well. On second thought, maybe not so fast.:p

Different people will tackle different jobs. I do some electrical work on my home, but I won't touch spackle. Hate spackle.

I like hard work like building a fence better than finish work like spackle or trim work.

I think we are going to learn how to lay wood floors. Maybe bamboo floors. Good old USDA loan left some mad money in the checkbook for some updates.

We bought wood at Lumber Liquidators, and it was OK. We installed it ourselves, and mostly it is fine. We had some trouble getting details right at some walls and cabinets. A pro would have done better. But we saved money, and are satisfied all in all.

Hubs was a carpenter and then a plumbers helper. He won't touch electric, but we do a lot of other things.
